Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa
One of 9 tablets. Plaster caste from a silicone mould. Last remaining one. I lost the other 8. All varying weights and densities. A eulogy to iqra. To read. The moment when Mohammed received his first revelation from the angel Jibraeel. This story always fascinated me, the transformation from common man to God’s Prophet, from illiterate to a universal timeless wisdom, a transformation heralded by one single word; Iqra. Read.
Such a powerful instruction.
Read.
Read.
Read.
The original intent was to have 3 versions of the three times repeated word. A play on numbers resulting in a grid of 9. Since doing this, I got married and moved 3 times, changed 3 jobs, found myself lost myself over again (perhaps 3 times?), and the other day I found it and returned to that powerful conviction; Read, read, read. Currently reading books that are opening my mind and my horizons.... and I feel the conviction of that instruction subconsciously following me, guiding me, through every page turned, every book held, every spine stretched..... .
I read, read, read. .
