CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL COMICS
A comics re-interpretation of the stained glass miracle windows at Canterbury Cathedral.
This project involves a group of contemporary comics artists, including Karrie Fransman and Zara Slattery.
My contribution draws parallels between the story of Goditha and a young girl visiting the Cathedral on a school trip. Both figures, contemporary and historic, experience similar feelings of othering in part due to their gender aswell as religious affiliation. In making these parallels, the work addresses the question of relevance; how can we relate to these medieval pieces of art? By looking deeper into the symbolic meaning of the original stained glass windows, we are able to decipher a plethora of social codes still alive in society today.
The images on display here are 2 pages of a 6 page comic. More details to be released once the full project is available for public viewing.
